The International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), one of the world’s leading associations on power systems expertise, selected LineVision’s & National Grid’s paper as the winner of the competition
Boston, MA (October 19, 2021) – LineVision, Inc., the world’s only provider of non-contact power line monitoring solutions, announced today that its paper on Dynamic Line Ratings (DLR) won CIGRE’s Grid of the Future Next Generation Network paper competition. The winning paper, entitled, An Empirical Analysis of the Operational Efficiencies and Risks Associated with Static, Ambient Adjusted, and Dynamic Line Rating Methodologies, was authored by LineVision Applications Engineer, Kristine Engle.

The paper was co-authored by National Grid’s Manager of DG Standards and New Technology, Dr. Babak Enayati, Dr. Mahraz Amini, Lead Strategy Analyst, Dr. Hamid Elyas, Senior Power Systems Engineer, and LineVision’s VP of Product, Jonathan Marmillo.
“To study the operational efficiencies and risks associated with the different types of line ratings, National Grid and LineVision performed an analysis comparing the ratings that would be generated for the same transmission line using each methodology over a one-year period,” said LineVision’s Kristine Engel. “Given the rules on advanced line ratings proposed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the study is timely and demonstrates that DLR offers significant capacity increases above both SLR and AAR while offering the benefit of real-time, actionable data.”
LineVision will present the winning paper at CIGRE’s International Symposium in Paris in August of 2022.
